Masonux was easy to install and very fast, but:

1. I manually edited all my partitions and UNchecked the "format" box for my /home partition, but it got formatted anyway. Something in Ubiquity messed up I guess. Not a big deal, but a good reminder to back up stuff first.

2. Masonux didn't recognize my printer and I never could get it to work.

3. The same sound problem I've always had with LXDE - booting up with sound muted by default - persists.

Other than that, I really liked Masonux. It seems like the ORIGINAL Ubuntu/LXDE mixture, Ubuntulite (now U-Lite), will be swallowed up by Lubuntu. There is very little activity in their forums and U-Lite "Jaunty" is still in Alpha. The latest .iso for U-Lite is based on Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04), so it looks like the forerunner to all the new LXDE-based Ubuntu variants is on the verge of oblivion. Lubuntu is going to be great, I think.

I only discovered Maxonux relatively recently too. I installed it on my EEE netbook and it's super-fast. I will probably switch to the official Lubuntu release when it comes out but Maxonux is well worth checking out.
